Girl cats....

Ya gotta love 'em....kitty-cats, almost grown up cats but still kitties. I inherited two of them a few months ago and it was so good for me. John, who was my best friend and ex-husband loved cats. There was a feral mama-cat hanging around the property where he lived. She gave birth to kittens to the delight of John who became their "godfather". When they started to eat instead of nursing, he began to bother at me to take 2 of them because they needed a home.

"For pete's sake, I said, they're cats they've got a home with their mom."

This statement comes from the way that I grew up, actually. I always wanted a cat when I was a girl but, in my family, cats belonged outside. So we had a alot of feral cats around in the empty lot close to our house. As I got older, I thought all cats were like that. Living outside and not to be petted or touched at all.

John had a different cat upbringing, his mom loved cats and they were always around and in the house. He liked cats himself and what's more, he appreciated them.

Well, one day he arrived at my house with one of these feral babies ... that was it.. I was in love with this soft little mocha colored ball of fluff with full black feet who seemed to like me too! A few days later he showed up with Mocha's sister. Instant love..this was definitely a cat's cat, white and grey mug with a white vest and pure white feet, she was a darling. Well , what did it for me was when the two sisters found each other, curled up together and went for a nap.

Needless to say, they stayed with me but John didn't. He passed away unexpectedly a week or so after bringing the cats to me.

Having the "girls" as I began to call them kept me balanced in a world that had completely changed for me. To feed them, hold them , laugh at their antics, even work to get them both spayed at a reasonable price, all of these actions around the girl cats helped me stay upright in a crooked world.

At Home...trying to figure it out

Not working. What an odd state of affairs! I was NOT one of the many casualties of this recession we seem to be wallowing in. I quit...twice! The first time was in California. I quit to move to another state. I was in my late 50's and just never even applied for another job in banking customer service after I moved to this state. I was perfectly happy mulling over the death of both my parents, the fact that my twin grandchildren were taken from my daughter
and their father and in all respects...from me also!

Lots and lots of drama happened in my life before I came to Oregon. Most of it in and around
the house where I lived. When I think back on it I see myself running down the road toward the airport; hair in complete disarray, screaming at the top of my lungs and carrying an overful suitcase. This is a huge exaggeration , of course, but I really was somewhat nuts! I should also mention that I was married at the time I moved...I say "I moved" because I did, he came with me.
After relaxing here in Oregon for awhile I did get a job as a Book and Magazine merchandizer
or a "rack jockey" as it's sometimes called. This was completely different than anything I'd ever done before and I liked it! The job was becoming increasingly physical and I tried , but I was unable to do it. I quit this one in the spring of 2009.

Oh ,but I do meander!

Now where were we...Oh thats right. I was telling you about how I feel about no longer being in the working world. Well, I can sleep in! That's good. But truthfully I'm a little lost! Not working when I first came to Oregon was different...it was a drama rest that I needed to have. But now it's for real! That's scary!

I'll tell you a secret though....I'm finally learning to cook!

Talk to you next time

...In the Beginning

So, what is this? Well, actually its a somewhat older boomer broadcasting a blog! I've tried this a few times this past year without success, concentrating on the blog look instead of the blog-say!
First, I tried general blogging in the hope that I could make a little extra cash. Unfortunatly, I didn't know enough about blogs and was quickly distracted. I spent most of my time reading 'blogs of note' pointed out on my dashboard and trying to figure out where bloggers came up with those very cool backgrounds and layouts that I saw there. My second attempt was a niche blog about riding trains. I love to travel on trains but I've only been on the west coast riding them. At the time I didn't think that was enough exposure....but rethinking this , I may go back and revisit this blog. I even took a picture from YouTube and placed it on the blog!
With this blog, I've decided not to use up all my time and energy to pretty this up (Oh, to be Mondo at Fresh Ribbon!) I've learned a few blogging tricks since I began but not enough yet. So its going to be plain blog until I'm better at changing things around.
I'm forever posting thoughts into a notebook or having them stack up in my mind leaving not too much room for anything too useful. My husband used to call me 'The Perpetual Writer'. He was right. I suppose I do like to write.and I'd be placed in the hospital if I went around saying all that's on my mind instead of writing it down. So, in the interest of saving tree's I will blog my thoughts about past, present and the future and invite comments and also your thoughts.
